Madhvani Foundation raises Uganda funding

East African Business Week, 6th Apr, 2015 by Winnie Mandela

KAMPALA, Uganda - Madhvani Foundation, one of Uganda’s largest private education trusts, launched its 2015/2016 scholarship scheme with increment of the scholarship funds from Ush650million to Ush700million (about $230,000).

The boost is meant to cater for higher tuition fees for science and technical disciplines in the various Ugandan universities.

During the launch last week, Gabriel Opio, the Chairman of the scholarship committee said the Foundation sees it crucial to increase the scholarship fund so as to encourage and enable science scholars pursue the needed disciplines for Uganda’s labor market.

“We realize that many unprivileged and yet academically brilliant students cannot afford these expensive courses.

With this boost we hope to give more opportunity to academically gifted students,” he said.
