150 receive Madhvani scholarships

The Madhvani Foundation has awarded scholarships worth shs460m to 159 students.
In a Friday statement, the chairman of the foundation, Sam Rutega, said: “This has been the most competitive year since the offering of the scholarships started in the 60s.”
Over 1,100 applications were received and 237 candidates interviewed.
A total of 145 scholarships went to undergraduate students, while 14 were for post-graduates.
They were mainly in the fields of computer science, business management, commerce, engineering and agriculture.
The committee chief, Henry Kyemba, said all parts of the country received scholarships.
The eastern region had the highest scholarships (47) followed by western Uganda with 40.
The north got 36 slots.
The Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation was established in 1965. In 2003, its board set up the education trust, with the principal objective of promoting scientific and technical education.
Since 2003, over sh1b has been donated by the trust to students pursuing university education in Uganda.
