Madhvani beneficiaries form association
Sunday, 12th July 2009; The New Vision by Moses Odongo
BENEFICIARIES of the Madhvani Foundation education scholarships have launched an alumni association. To launch it, a dinner was hosted at Hotel Africana last Thursday. Over 500 graduates, beneficiaries of the foundation’s scholarships, attended.
Speaking at the function, Nimisha Madhvani, Muljibhai Madhvani’s grand daughter, pledged sh500m for this year’s scholarships.
Nimisha, Uganda’s High Commissioner to India, said: “We are Ugandans. It is our responsibility to make Uganda a better place by educating future leaders.”
Radio One’s MD, Maria Kiwanuka, advised the graduates to start businesses. Brief but stiff elections for the association leaders were held. The slots of chairman and secretary were taken by Makerere University old students.
Jonathan Mawangani, the Iganga District State Attorney, was elected general secretary.
