Madhvani releases scholarships shortlist
The shortlist of candidates due for interviews for the Madhvani Foundation education scholarships in the 2008-2009 academic year has been released.
Making the announcement in a press release last week, the Chairman of the scholarships committee Mr. Henry Kyemba said the foundation received over 1,000 applications for scholarships in the fields of science, technology, commerce and medicine of these, 268 have been selected for interviews. He continued "this has not been an easy process as the quantity and quality of candidates who applied for funding has increased significantly from last year."
He said the shortlist of candidates and dates set for interviews is available on the foundation website at www.madhvanifoundation.com or at the Madhvani Foundation building, East African Distributors Ltd plot 2/20 Jinja road.
Interviews for the short listed candidates are scheduled to start tomorrow, Thursday till July 28 at The Academic Registrars building (Senate Building), Board room level V1 at the Makerere University Main Campus.
The Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation was established in 1965. In 2003, the Board set up the education trust with the principal objective being the promotion of scientific and technical educational for the betterment of the people of Uganda. The Shs450 million annual contribution the foundation makes represents the largest single annual donation by a private sector company towards education in Uganda.
About 75 per cent of the scholarships will be extended to undergraduate courses and 25 per cent for the post-graduate courses at tertiary institutions of learning
